New Season for the General

Jess Maxfield as George Alfred Townsend with a NEW fuller mustache

The pandemic has robbed us of many things – loved ones, friends, time. For Rudely Stamp’d, we were robbed of performances – most of which were, sadly, cancelled. Of course, no one could predict when new performances might be scheduled, but we can now see light at the end of the tunnel.

Social distancing and masks may still be necessary, but gatherings for entertainment and education can begin again. So, let’s draw up the curtain and welcome a new season of conversations!

This season brings with it a host of new changes for our group. Last October, we celebrated the marriage of Rudely Stamp’d impressionists Derek Maxfield and Jess Maxfield (formerly Scheuerman), who co-star in our current show, Grant on the Eve of Victory, which is now available to book locally and nationally!

Set in late March 1865, Grant on the Eve of Victory is a one act play featuring a conversation between Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant and war correspondent George Alfred Townsend of the New York World. This late night informal interview features Grant’s recollections about Maj. General William Tecumseh Sherman, the Battle of Shiloh, surrender of Vicksburg and his thoughts about President Lincoln and Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

So far we have performed Grant on the Eve of Victory for the West Sparta Historical Society and the Cleveland Civil War Roundtable, and we are looking forward to an April 9th performance at the Bristol Valley Theater in Naples, NY.

Anyone interested in booking a show should contact Derek Maxfield at ddmaxfield@genesee.edu. The play is designed for both outdoor and indoor performances.
