Bristol Valley Theater to Host Grant on the Eve of Victory

On April 9th, 1865, the Civil War virtually ended with the surrender of Robert E. Lee to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. One hundred-fifty seven years later, to the day, the Bristol Valley Theater in Naples, NY, will host the one act play Grant on the Eve of Victory.

Set in late March 1865, the play features a conversation between Lt. General U.S. Grant and war correspondent George Alfred Townsend of the New York World. This late night informal interview features Grant’s recollections about Major General William Tecumseh Sherman, the Battle of Shiloh, surrender of Vicksburg, and his thoughts about Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

This special performance includes the addition of two blackbox scenes that bookend the main play. The first features the return of Tracy Ford in his role as General William Tecumseh Sherman in a pantomime conversation with General Grant on the wharf at City Point, VA. The second features seasoned historical impressionist Tom Schobert in the role of General Robert E. Lee as he surrenders to General Grant at Appomattox Court House.

The performance is a one night only show on Saturday, April 9th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $15.00 for adults and are available at — https://bvtnaples.org/spring/. All proceeds support the Bristol Valley Theater and its operation. Folks with questions are invited to either e-mail rudelystampd@gmail.com or call the theater at 585-374-9032.
