“Now We Stand” Revival: Premiere Recap

On September 17th, Rudely Stamp’d impressionists held the premiere performance of the revival of “Now We Stand By Each Other Always” at the Main St. 56 Theater in Bataiva, NY. Our performance was hosted by the Batavia Players, who graciously provided their technical assitance and expertise during the performance in addition to the use of their space.

This performance introduced Dan Snyder into the role of General William Tecumseh Sherman. Snyder’s fiery performance was juxtaposed with the pensive General Ulysses S. Grant, portrayed by the play’s author and director Derek Maxfield.

The play also saw the return of Tom Schobert to the role of Grant’s staff officer General John Rawlins in a special guest appearance. Rawlins’s repeated attempts to control the consumption of alcohol between Grant and Sherman came to no avail, much to the delight of the audience. Schobert’s reprisal of the role also included an opening statement on the importance of remembering the history of the Civil War today, especially as we live through one of the most polarizing eras of American history.

Producer and social media manager Jess Maxfield also reprised the role of Julia Dent Grant in the performance.

The group plans to take the show on the road following their success and will travel next to Lynchburg, Virginia to perform for the Lynchburg Civil War Roundtable on November 13th, followed by a performance at the American Civil War Museum in Appomattox on November 14th.
